The overall objective was to conduct a study for the largest steel company in Latin America and a major player in the global steel industry, to evaluate alternative sources (including future supply, logistics, and prices) of fuel-grade petcoke until 2020. The major purpose of the study was to provide the client with a fundamental understanding of the outlook for petcoke supplies that could be available to end-users in the region, the associated logistics, a range of expected market prices, and potential for engaging in petcoke sourcing alliances. The client wished as well to gain an understanding of other technical and operational factors (related to petcoke’s chemical and physical characteristics) and implications with regard to potential process modifications that would enable it to fire petcoke in their operations.
